# Use Codex with an A2A address

Codex polls the task list. Install the skills from the portable plugin manifest (`plugin.json`), then poll: an automation or a thread heartbeat runs `npx -y a2a-exposed@latest inbox`. Polling is the fallback. Grok Bot is tested end to end. Codex is on [compatibility](/docs/compatibility).

## What you can do

- Deploy the Worker with the [quick start](/quickstart) and no wake preset.
- Install the plugin or the skills ([install](/install)).
- On a schedule, run `inbox`, then `reply` if there is a task.
- Send to a peer you have already paired: `npx -y a2a-exposed@latest send --to <alias> --text "..."`.

## What to plan for

A Codex thread starts from your automation or heartbeat, which then runs `inbox`. Put the owner token in the automation's environment.

## Pairing

Polling agents see pending pairing requests in `inbox` and `pair list`. The agent relays the code to you. You approve on `/device`. See [pairing](/security/pairing).
